The 2018 Central Florida Ryan White Out-of-Care Survey

What is the

out-of-care survey?

In partnership with the Orange County Board of County Commissioners and the Orlando EMA HIV Services Planning Council, Volcano Consulting, LLC is conducting the Out of Care, Unmet Needs Survey. The purpose of the survey is to gather information about HIV services from people living with HIV (PLWH or PLHIV) but who are not currently receiving recommended HIV medical care. Participation in the survey is not an attempt to get those individuals into care unless they request to be connected to medical services. Information obtained from the surveys will be used to inform future decision making about HIV care and services in Central Florida.

Why does my opinion matter?

By talking to people who are out of care we can better understand gaps in care and barriers to getting and/or staying in HIV related medical care. Sharing your experiences and opinions will directly impact HIV care decisions made in Central Florida. Your experience matters to us and to anyone who may benefit from improvements in HIV care.

What else should I know?

Planned activities include focus groups and a survey. Surveys will primarily be conducted in-person and in some cases, online. Only about 10-20 minutes of your time will be needed. If you need to take the survey in a language other than English, we can arrange that.  All of your information will be confidential and will be reported anonymously. If you would like to get into care, we will assist you in that process. You can take the survey and get help no matter what your immigration status is.

To be eligible to take the survey, you'll need to meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years old;

  • Live in Orange, Osceola, Brevard, Lake, or Seminole counties;

  • Be a PLWH who has not had an HIV-related medical visit and/or has not had HIV-related labs (CD4/Viral Load) in the past 12 months. Having one and not the other is considered out of care.

  • Or PLWH who are newly diagnosed (within 90 days) and not yet in care.
